Reimagining is a broad term for any imaginative re-interpretation, adaptation, or remix of a pre-existing motif, image, or work, whether the reimagined work is factual/historical or fictional. For example, a poster for a Harry Potter movie in which all the characters are black could be called a “reimagining” of the franchise. In a broad sense, all remixes are reimagining what they appropriate.
Anachronistic reimagining is the practice of creating or recreating historical or cultural artifacts that never existed to explore a fantasy of something the artist wishes had existed or would like to put forward instead of something that really existed. Anachronistic reimaginings intentionally mix factual and fictional elements in a way that can be misleading to an uneducated viewer or audience.
